Grace will revolutionize your leadership.
I love pastors and leaders. Having been a pastor for over 30 years, I understand the ups and downs that pastors and leaders go through in stewarding the awesome responsibility of shepherding God’s people and building the church.

Over the years, one of the most common questions people ask when they see the success that God has given our church is, “What is the one thing you’ve done that has resulted in your church’s exponential growth?”

My answer in one word? “Grace.”

Whether you are pastoring a local church, leading a small group, or running a service team, we all want to see our church become the thriving community we know it’s meant to be—where people are growing, flourishing, and living their best lives with Jesus.

But how do we get there? By implementing more church-growth principles? By starting a new program to reach more people? Yes, there is wisdom in these strategies. But over the years in ministry, I’ve learnt that whatever we build, we need to build on the firm foundation of Jesus and His grace (see 1 Cor. 3:11).

Ever since God unveiled the gospel of grace to me, it has revolutionized the way I lead. I believe it will do the same for you.

For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
Philippians 2:13
Grace produces results.
Some people have the misconception that being under grace means sitting back and doing nothing. But nothing could be further from the truth! Paul, the apostle of grace, said, “I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” (1 Cor. 15:10).

My friend, grace produces results. When you are under grace, God “works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure” (Phil. 2:13). His Spirit in you inspires and energizes you. He directs you to do the right thing at the right time. He leads you to the specific people He wants you to reach out to. He gives you the wisdom to solve crises. His divine guidance goes beyond human experience or knowledge—and brings supernatural results.

When you are under grace and follow the Spirit, you’ll find yourself laboring “more abundantly” according to God’s will and being more effective than you could ever be by your own effort!

Maybe you’re asking, “But just how do I do that, Pastor Prince?"
Below, I share 3 powerful keys of grace-based leadership that I believe will bless you and help you on your leadership journey—just as they've helped me on mine. My team has also put together a special resource, The Grace Leadership Series Volume 2, to help you delve deeper into God’s wisdom for leadership and service.

If there’s anyone who flowed in the rhythms of grace and led a successful ministry, it’s our Lord Jesus.

I believe something significant happened even before Jesus had a single follower or did a single miracle. Before His ministry began, He was baptised in the Jordan River and heard His Father speak these words over Him:
“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
Matthew 3:17
Before Jesus even started on His earthly mission, God reminded Him that He was loved and approved of as a Son. It was in the security of His Father’s love and approval that He began His ministry.

And it’s also in that security that He finished what He came to do. Before He went to the cross, He heard the same affirming words on the Mount of Transfiguration (see Matt. 17:5).

My friend, when we become secure in our heavenly Father’s unconditional love and affirmation, we are empowered to walk boldly and effectively in the things that He’s called us to do. We can make decisions led by His Spirit without being swayed by the need for approval from others. We can be faithful to the call of God on our lives!

LEADERSHIP KEY 2
Grace flows when you first receive, then give.
Many leaders and servers in church are busy running to and fro, seeing to one pressing matter after another. It can feel like the pace of ministry never lets up. Sometimes, we find ourselves like Martha in Luke 10, trying our best to serve the Lord, but getting stressed, tired, and angry in the process.

Martha did many things the day Jesus came to her house, but missed out on doing the most important thing:
Sit at His feet and receive from Him.
That’s what her sister Mary did, and Jesus called it the one thing needed, “that good part, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:42).

Because Mary first received from Jesus, she was able to serve Him lavishly (see John 12:3–8). She didn’t serve with franticness or frustration. She served with thankfulness and joy.

This is why I always tell my leaders, “Don’t draw from the water of the Word for others without first drinking. Because you can give others a drink and die of thirst yourself!” My friend, take time to first receive from Jesus. When you are personally ministered to by Him, all your giving and outpouring will be an overflow of what you first received. It will be restful—not stressful!

LEADERSHIP KEY 3
Grace flows when you depend on the Lord for His supply.
I have noticed that grace flows best in a person’s leadership when they stop seeing their weaknesses as limitations. Instead, they start seeing their weaknesses as opportunities to depend on the Lord for His supply.

In our leadership journeys, there will be times we take on roles that seem to demand more from us than what we have to offer. My friend, if God has called you to it, His grace will carry you through it...

My friend, if God has called you to it, His grace will carry you through it. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, He says,
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
‍This means that the very areas you feel weak or inadequate in are the areas in which the Lord’s strength and supply can flow. So you don’t have to feel limited by your lack or overwhelmed by the need to make up for it. You can depend on Jesus.

If you feel like you’re not smart enough, you can ask Him for divine wisdom and insight to make great decisions for your ministry or team. If you feel like you’re not skilled enough, you can ask Him to impart to you the skills you need and teach you how to cultivate them.

When you bring your “not enough”s to Jesus, you’ll find that He’s more than enough! And when you see the supernatural results that only His grace can bring, you’ll know without a doubt that all the glory goes to Him!
